Transcription Work From Home
One
of the oldest and still fastest growing careers is
transcription work from home. You have most likely seen all the
ads and commercials offering home study courses for medical
transcription through the years. It may be that you’ve even
wondered if their claims could actually be true. Or you may
have gone so far as to send off for additional information
about the course.
As to the legitimacy of these
courses, they are generally not scams. However, there are
schools that are more prestigious than others and holding a
graduation diploma from one of those is more likely to land you
some transcription work from home. Doctors’ offices are
familiar with those particular schools and know that their
graduates are very well educated in transcription skills.
Therefore, they’re usually quite eager to hire these
people.
Medical transcription may be the
most popular work from home type but it is by no means the only
one. Attorneys also have a need for legal transcribers and they
are generally quite happy to let you work from the comfort of
your home. The only issue you may run into is that many offices
prefer to use someone local to perform their transcription work
from home. This is usually due to the ease of pickup and
delivery of the work.
It is quite possible to land a
transcription job from home through online companies. Getting
on with the best of these companies may be somewhat difficult,
though, because they have very little turnover and are rarely
hiring. One way to get your foot in the door with one of these
companies is by knowing someone who has either worked with them
a long time, or is in the position of influencing the hiring of
someone. Otherwise, you may find yourself gaining marketable
experience by doing transcription work from home for lower
paying companies.
A method of finding a work at home transcription job is simply
by picking up the phone book and calling all the doctors or
attorneys in your locality. Ask to speak with the office
manager and offer your services as a transcriber. You don’t
have to limit yourself to only one office, either, unless that
office has plenty of work to keep you busy. While it’s true
that you may have to wade through a lot of phone calls, it’s
also just as true that you may find one or more very reliable
assignments in this way. All it takes is one job and you’re on
your way!
